Homework.
Perhaps I’m a crazy child, and you could call it simple teenage rebellion, but my goodness homework drives me freaking insane. Really, I just think it’s the stupidest thing in the world. No, I don’t have a problem with teachers assigning homework so that we gain extra knowledge and understanding of the work we’re supposed to be doing, but I find it to be pretty pointless if a teacher is assigning homework and then grading it. If it’s a daily grade where all assignments are graded for trying as opposed to correctness, then that’s one thing but if a teacher grades RANDOM homework assignments then that’s entirely different.
I really think it should be an all or nothing type thing when it comes to grading homework. If not, then you should make it clear what is and isn’t going to be graded before hand. It’s not a matter of “I’m lazy and I don’t want to do homework”, I don’t mind doing it at all if I feel like I need the extra understanding or practice or whatever, but if there’s something I feel that I can do without a problem, then I’d honestly prefer to just NOT do the homework since I feel that it isn’t worth my time.
Or maybe homework should be a bonus work type thing where you get a couple points for every assignment you do, that way there’s a reward system saying more than “hey, I did my work I should be proud” it’s really just busy work to me. It seems to me that some teachers feel as though assigning a lot of work automatically makes you a good teacher when that isn’t the situation at all. If you’re going to assign work, then it should really be just to benefit the students, it shouldn’t have the potential to hurt someone’s grade if they miss one assignment that you decide to take up when the student has done other work.
I’m aware that there should be a level of student responsibility involved, and you can easily say “well, perhaps kids should just do their homework”, but really there can be some pretty true time constrains, and maybe some people prefer to do their homework on their own schedules. Usually, I actually get behind on homework, but quite often if I feel I need to, I’ll actually take the time to catch up on it if I feel like I have the free time. I just prefer to work in my optimal conditions and usually my situation at home involves a bunch of stress and babysitting, and in all honesty if I tried to do my homework every single night I would probably go crazy. Because of that I often take homework days off and just do the work when I get the chance.
I dunno, just had to express that opinion since homework’s had me fed up for a couple days.
