We had a guest speaker
Today, during 2nd block, I had the fortune of having class interrupted by a guest speaker coming to the school and speaking in our beloved auditorium. Mainly, I just wanted to get in class, but I went and sat there, and actually listened to the guy (who’s name I will reveal in a moment), so yeah, after listening to him, and absorbing a bit of what he said, I went back to class and wrote a blog post, by hand because I was that impacted and didn’t want to lose the awe of the moment.
The “post” so to say is as follows:

It’s amazing just how positive a good thought inspired insightful speech can boost your day, make your mind race, give you new ideas. James Span was just here…That’s’ right, the “weather guy” or Meteorologist, whatever you want to call it. I’m a Junior but his speech was engineered towards freshmen. At the beginning, I felt things were too scripted, I’d suppose just a portion of my natural suspicion of public speakers. As things went on though, I began to see a realness & sincerity that I don’t see in most of the speakers I’ve listened to. I think it was partially because he did what I tend to do where I start talking with pre-formed thoughts for a while & eventually thoughts just start to rush. Either way, the man fucking inspired me. I don’t remember every word he said, but in ways he seems to be a lot like me. He cares & wants to help people I admire that because it’s a very much diminishing trait in modern humans. As Mr. Span said, people can be very negative and selfish. I have to go for now, silly time-constraints of being in school. I got a random list of scattered thoughts for future blog posts that I took down with inspiration from the speech. Haha, wrote them on my freaking hand.
Negativity, selflessness, addiction, teasing, integrity, commitment, moderation, drug use, control, self-motivation, abandonment, and a couple other things I can’t read off my freaking hand.
rudeness, pride, perfection, & sex <—Among some of the things I happened to add or remember
Oh, and fucking gossip. Some people need to just mind their own business. But yeah, I’m gonna go now, gotta get to band.

So, that’s all I wrote, in the 15 to 20 minute time frame that I had, but reflecting upon it, I have to say that listening to him talk did a lot for me today. It kicked me back into blogger gear, where I wanted to do my best and make a difference to the world. A few people I spoke today thought it was boring, and saw it as “him just talking about his life” and other similar quotes. I think I feel bad for those people, because there was much more to it than that. You just have to be willing to open your mind and listen. Think about what he really means, the importance of the things he says.
After listening to him speak, whether everything was elaborately planned and perfectly organized or not, I think he did a damn good job and influenced me more than enough. I just wish there were more people in that audience that took it in as much as I did. There were freaking people around me who just ignored it ENTIRELY and held their own conversation (about a group of 5) I considered telling them to shush, seeing as I’m one who prefers to avoid conflict and I know that a large portion of my school doesn’t respond rationally to any situation, or even think rationally, I decided to just let it go this time.
Wow, just reflecting on everything, I have to say with this blog here at wordpress, I’ve began to transform into some kind of motivated blogging machine. I feel much better about myself in general, and I feel more powerful. I just know I’m making a difference, and there are people out there who I’d be letting down if I settled for any less than my best. Letting others down is always a lot worse than letting yourself down, because no matter what you do in life, you’ll always be stuck with yourself.
To all my readers, just wanted to say thanks, and I love you guys. Being able to open myself up to you keeps me strong in times that I might normally be weak, and also keeps my mind alert and ready to think.
